Playgroup (for infants to five year olds) provides a safe, comfortable and secure space where very young children and their families can play and learn together. We use the Supported Playgroup in Schools Program ‘Learning Together’. This provides a welcoming and informal support network for parents as they share an engaging, interactive and social environment with their young children.
Our school staff lead Playgroup and while it does not attract membership fees, we encourage all families who use our service to join Playgroup SA. There is a $3.00 fee per family per session to cover the cost of equipment and consumable resources. Families with older children are asked to contribute a piece of fruit or a healthy snack per session to share with the group.
Playgroup meets on Friday from 9.15am to 10.45am in the Preschool learning area. Contact the School Office on (08) 8245 5800 or email the school at info@smms.catholic.edu.au.
Occasional care is now open for children 3 years and older (who are toilet trained). Occasional Care for three year olds assists to further develop their independence by attending without their parents and it also provides a more gradual approach for our four year olds who are placed in our excellent educational Preschool program.
Occasional Care is held every Wednesday from 8.45am to 11.45am to coincide with Wednesday afternoon Preschool group. Contact the School Office on (08) 8245 5800 or email the school at info@smms.catholic.edu.au for bookings. You can book in for as many sessions as you need, up to one full term at a time. Preschool is the year before formal schooling begins, with Reception. It is a time when your child will have lots of fun with children their own age. Preschool helps to develop and broaden the way your child experiences learning, encouraging them to become confident, eager and enthusiastic learners who are looking forward to starting school.
We provide a purpose-built space with strong connections to nature that cater specifically for the learning needs of young children.
We would love to talk to you about how your family could fit into our preschool community and you can find out how to enrol your child in our Enrolment section.
The children enjoy the ongoing close involvement of their parents in their Reception to Year 2 experience. The strong partnership between school and your home nurtures their minds and builds an important foundation.
There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy development, communication skills, relationships, and different modes of learning to challenge them.
These are important years as your child builds on their prior knowledge and experiences to strengthen confidence and embrace new challenges.
