Term 3, Week 5 Friday 26th August 2022
We have been very busy at St Margaret Mary’s School and Preschool this week! Book Week is always a lot of fun, and it was wonderful to see students and staff dress up on Thursday. Classes were also involved in many activities in class and with their buddies over the week. In week 4, I had the pleasure of attending camp with our year 5/6 students. For some of these students, it was their first time away from home! We were all very impressed with their enthusiasm, manners and willingness to be involved in all the activities. Camp is such an important event in children’s school experience, and I thank our amazing staff for the time and effort they devote to making this a supportive, meaningful and fun event.
We have also had many Sacramental Celebrations over the past few weeks in the Croydon Park Parish. The Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion have been celebrated as part of the Parish program with students from many other schools in our Parish. Each liturgy has been wonderful, and it was great to be a part of this important celebration for the children and their families. Thank you to Mr Harrison for all his work in the Parish Team to prepare the program and celebrations.
We are currently finalising our 2023 enrolments across all year levels. If you know of any families who may be interested in joining our St Margaret Mary’s School community, they can contact Angela in the front office. Please remember to return the 2023 planning forms, this information is very important to us as we plan for 2023 class structures and staffing.
We are awaiting news about a community garden grant for the area on the corner of Tungara Ave and Torrens Road. Sharyn Gromitsaris (on our school board) has put together a submission for greening this area. Fingers crossed, as it will be a great addition to the planned upgrade of our yard and playground. Many thanks to Sharyn and Ody for their work in putting the submission together.
We look forward to seeing all the children at the School Disco this Friday evening. Please remember that tickets must be pre-purchased and only parents who are registered volunteers are permitted in the hall.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Kelly Campbell
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week, our Year 1/2 classes celebrated their first Liturgy for the year. The children’s singing and actions filled the Church with joy and the readers and gospel processors were both confident and brave in their leadership. Special thanks to the Year 1/2 Team for all their support to help prepared the children whilst some of us were off enjoying the school camp with our Year 5 and Year 6 students.
Social Justice Focus
Thank you to our families for the generous donations of vegetables. We have received more than enough vegetables to create soups for Moore Street’s evening soup runs for homeless persons. It was wonderful to come together in a kitchen setting with small groups of our Student Leadership Representatives (SLT). Together we washed and prepared the vegetables for cooking and we spoke about how fortunate we are to be able to have the opportunity to support Adelaide’s homeless and most vulnerable. We look forward to continuing our soup making next week with more groups of SLT representatives .
Journey to Emmaus
Next week, our Year 6 students will begin their first day of the Journey to Emmaus Leadership Program. The program is designed for Year 6 and offers a shared experience with Whitefriars Catholic School and will be coordinated by myself and Josh Page. We will continue to provide updates of our school leaders engagement in the program.
ReLAT
Over the coming weeks, our Year 4 students will take part in a practice ReLAT (Religious Education Literacy Assessment Tool). As this is only a Year 4 assessment tool, further information will also be distributed to our Year 4 parents and caregivers in the lead up to the actual assessment which will be held in Week 9.
