Term 3, Week 3 Friday 11th August 2023
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
On Tuesday 8 August, we gathered for a whole school Liturgy of the Word to celebrate the Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross. Mary Mackillop founded the order of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The Sisters mission was to continue in Mary MacKillop’s passion to address the needs of the community. One such need, was providing an education for all children. St Margaret Mary’s School was original established by the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1929. Each year, we celebrate our own special connection to St Mary of the Cross.
Catholic Charities
In response to the St Vincent de Paul Appeal, the Croydon Park volunteers are seeking further donations that will help address the increasing number of families turning to ‘Vinnies’ for assistance. As such Sr Catherine, is in short supply of packet items such as cereal, pasta or long-life milk. Any generous donations of cereals, packets and boxes of pasta or cartons of long-life milk will be greatly appreciated. White donation baskets will be placed in the Front Office entrance foyer from Monday 14 August (Week 4) to Friday 7 September (Week 7). Please note, I will invite Sr Catherine to collect donations each week or as needed to provide for those families seeking assistance from the parish. Thank you once again for your ongoing generosity.
Sacramental Student Workshop
On Wednesday 4 August; Anisha, Rose, Xavier, Kayleen, Rosalie, Aria, Javier, Cameron, Jayne-Louiz and Abrihet attended a Sacramental Student Workshop at St Patricks School in Mansfield Park. Our ten candidates joined other students from Whitefriars, St Patrick and families within the parish. Special thanks to Ms Brown, who attended the workshop and assisted our candidates to reflect on the ‘Sacraments of Initiation’ through various art and craft activities.

Dear Parents/Caregivers
I hope that the first few weeks of Term 3 have been happy and healthy!
Please remember that if your child is unwell, we would prefer that you keep them home. Many students are being sent to the sick room and parents are having to be called to pick their children up. Your support with this is much appreciated.
Book Week
Book Week will be celebrated across Australia from Saturday 19 – Friday 25 August. The theme this year is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. All classes have been sharing the nominated books from the Children’s Book Council and doing some activities around this during their library lessons. We will celebrate Book Week with our annual Book Week Dress Up and Parade on Friday 25 August starting at 10:15am. We hope that you will be able to join us.
This is the same date as our School Disco – so it’s going to be a fun and exciting day and evening for everyone!
School Disco
Don't forget to purchase tickets via the Qkr! app by Thursday 24th August.
Thank you to those people who have donated party bag items. If you would like to donate prizes or party bag items please bring them to the office.
NO HAT NO PLAY!
Students are getting back into the routine of wearing their hat each day. Please help your child to remember to bring their SMMS hat each day – our wide brimmed school hat is required for all outside play and PE lessons and carnivals. Please clearly label the hat with your child’s name. Our uniform shop has everything you need for your child – please visit Rosie Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to the 23 Cross Country runners who participated in the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival event yesterday in the Adelaide Parklands. Students ran 2km around the parklands and should be proud of their efforts! Thanks to Celeste Brown and Greig Graham who supported the students.
Best wishes

Assistant Principal
On Tuesday we were treated to a puppet play from Carrousel Theatre Company.
They presented the story of "La Lampada di Aladino" Aladdin's Lamp to us in a bilingual format which included audience participation! It was exciting to have this experience as part of the Italian curriculum at St Margaret Mary's school.
The students were interested, engaged and had fun!
