Term 2, Week 1 Friday 6th May 2022
Welcome back to Term 2, I hope you managed to get some rest time with your family over the break and that you had a happy and meaningful Easter Season. Later in the newsletter you will see fantastic pictures of some of our students in the Parish Sacramental Program, they reverently and beautifully presented the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. Thank you to Ms Manalo for preparing the children.
ART Show
We still have our fingers crossed that we can hold our Art Show on Wednesday 18th May. To keep everyone safe, please remember:
- Masks must be worn by all adults entering the school building.
- We need to always limit the number of people in our space, you may need to wait outside the building until we have adequate room.
The show is from 3.30-6.30pm, so please consider going home and coming back with your family rather than having to wait at 3.30pm.
All artworks can be purchased for $5 a piece (card only), and can be then taken home at the end of the week.
The students have all been working very hard on their creative artwork and are looking forward to showing it to their families.
Transition Program
On Wednesday we welcomed our Term 3 Reception (Foundation) students for their transition program. Each Wednesday 9-12pm they come along to the ‘big school’ to work in their classroom with Ms Rivera. We still have a few spots left in our Term 3 Reception intake, if you know anyone who has a child turning 5 before October 1st, they can contact the office for more information.
Principal’s Tour
On Monday we have a Principal’s Tour (9.15am) for anyone interested in finding out more about our school and preschool. If you have family or friends who may be interested, please just contact the office to book. We do have limited enrolment places for Term 3 Preschool and Reception available.
Uniform
We have super warm (and awesome looking) beanies for sale in the uniform shop ($15). ONLY school beanies to be worn at school please.
As the weather gets cooler, you may need to check your child/ren’s uniforms. We have long-sleeved tops available, and the jackets and track pants are very warm. The classrooms are cosy in winter, so no extra clothing (visible skivvies, vests, jackets) should be worn at school.
Thank you for your continued support,
Kelly Campbell
Welcome back to everyone for Term 2. We are excited to see everyone back at school and to welcome some new children and their families to our community.
Swimming and Volunteers
Just a quick reminder that swimming lessons will be coming up during Weeks 3 and Weeks 4. There will be information coming home this week and next week regarding swimming lessons. Please make sure that you read and return it as soon as possible.
We will be requiring volunteers to help staff and children during this time. Please let you class teacher know if you can help, even if it is for one day. If you would like to help your child’s class during swimming lessons, please make sure that you talk to Angela about the volunteer process.
Preschool Transition
We are very excited to welcome new children into our Preschool. We are excited to work with them and their families as they begin their learning journey. They had a wonderful time and appear to be settling well in to the Preschool.
We have limited spaces available in Preschool for Term 3 and for 2023. If you have friends or family who may be eligible for Preschool, please ask them to contact Angela for more information.
Mother’s Day
We wish all our Mother’s and Special People a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. We offer a prayer for all these special women in our lives.
May your Sunday be a short break, spent with people you love!
Alicia Boylan
Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope that everyone experienced the joy of Easter and enjoyed the time with family and friends.
Stations of the Cross
On Good Friday 15 April, Thomas T, Rafael, Hieu, Han, Evanna and Thomas B volunteered with other young parishioners to reinact the Stations of the Cross. We would like to thank Vicky Manalo for assisting the children to prepare to reverently portray the emotion of each Station within the gardens of our school grounds.
Sacrament of Confirmation
This term, the children continue in their sacramental journey in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We ask all families continuing in the sacramental program to ensure that you have confirmed a Confirmation date with Eleni Vailas the Parish Sacramental Coordinator. The Confirmation dates are Friday 12 August or Friday 19 August at St Margaret Mary’s Church from 7:00pm.
Confirmation is the third sacrament and the second Sacrament of Initiation. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, our young people confirm their Baptism and accept God’s gift of the Holy Spirit. They will choose to be strengthened by the gifts of a Saint and to be supported in their faith by a special sponsor.
On behalf of the parish, we request that all Confirmation candidates attend the upcoming Confirmation Information Meeting with one parent on Tuesday 24 May at Whitefriars Catholic School Hall in Woodville Park from 7:00pm. Please note, that sponsors are not required to attend this initial meeting.
If you have any questions relating to the sacramental program, please contact Eleni Vailas directly on 8346 0944.
Welcome Fr Saminathan
We warmly welcome and pray for Fr Saminathan Arockiasamy SdM (Fr Sam), who has recently joined our Croydon Park Parish. We pray for Fr Sam as he begins his new role as Assistant Priest alongside Fr Charles.
Masses and Liturgies of the Word
This term we are planning to recommence year level Masses for Year 4 to Year 6 and Liturgies of the Word for Preschool to Year 3. Although we are still negotiating dates, Masses will continue to be held on Thursdays from 9:15am – 10:00am. We are in the process of confirming Masses and Liturgies of the Word with the parish and are hopeful that these will be ready to include in the next edition of our newsletter.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone
God bless,
Matthew Harrison
Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission
This term all classes will be using a story called " l'Orto dell Nonno" - Grandpas Garden. Junior classes will use the text to explore fruit & vegetables and middle and upper primary students will also explore sustainability. I'm excited to teach this unit to the students . I met with Italian teachers from Whitefriars, St. Michael's and Nazareth during the school holidays to plan this unit of work .

6 May 2022
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2. Firstly, I would like to acknowledge and thank you for your patience and on-going support, throughout last term as we traversed the ever-changing landscape of the pandemic. With Term 2 now underway, I write to provide you with an update on the management of COVID-19 in the context of our school community.
Monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms
It is important that you continue to actively monitor your child for any COVID-19 symptoms. If any symptoms develop (even mild symptoms) students must not attend school and should follow SA Health advice in relation to testing and quarantine. If a positive result is advised, you will need to let the school know as soon as possible.
We continue to work closely with SA Health, and in instances where there are 5 or more COVID-19 cases in a class, we will activate the Catholic Education South Australia Outbreak Management Plan for COVID-19 and communicate with families at that time.
Masks in Schools
For the first four weeks of this term, face masks are required to be worn indoors by staff and adults attending school sites as well as by all secondary school students. Masks are also strongly encouraged for Year 3-6 students. Whether this remains a requirement after week four will be advised as that time approaches.
Parent/caregiver attendance at school
Parents are welcome to come into the school grounds however we ask that parents refrain from entering classrooms except for pre-arranged meetings.
Parents are welcome to attend school meetings, events and activities including as spectators for indoor sport, and for masses and assemblies.
When indoors, please ensure you are wearing a face mask and maintain social distancing as best as possible.
Activity settings in schools
This term year-level and multi-class assemblies and liturgies will resume.
Schools are also permitted to resume dormitory style school camps from week 3 of this term.
We anticipate that whole school gatherings will also resume later this term.
Close contacts
Please ensure you that you are familiar with the changes to close contact rules that took effect from 30 April 2022.
Please note that staff and students who are asymptomatic close contacts may continue to attend school, so long as they are testing in accordance with requirements and wearing a mask if they are over the age of 12. While there is no requirement for schools to keep a record of close contacts, please notify the school.
Further information is available at https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/conditions/infectious+diseases/covid-19/cases+and+contacts/close+contact+advice/close+contact+advice
To access free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs), close contacts must register at https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/conditions/infectious+diseases/covid-19/testing+and+tracing/rapid+antigen+testing+rat+for+covid-19 and nominate the collection point from which they will pick up a free pack of RATs.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we adapt to these arrangements in accordance with the SA Health advice to education settings.
If you have any immediate queries in relation to this correspondence, please speak to me or contact the school office.
Kind regards,
Kelly Campbell
Principal
