Term 2, Week 1 Friday 5th May 2023
Welcome back to Term 2. It was a very busy time in the school yard over the term break. The bitumen was pulled up and new bitumen was laid. We now need to wait a few weeks until we can seal and paint it. The students will be happy to know that once this has been done, we will be adding new basketball rings.
The area near our large bottle tree and the Church has been updated, with a great new teepee for imaginative play. We have already seen a lot of creative games going on in this space.
Our old playground is gone, and the landscapers are busily clearing the site to prepare for our new playground, sandpit and nature play space.
To allow for the painting of the court area, we are changing our earlier planned student free day to Monday of Week 5, 29th May. We will send lots of reminders beforehand!
We had a very busy day on Wednesday with the beginning of our Transition to Foundation program. At St Margaret Mary’s School we offer a 10-week transition program to students in the term before they start Term 3 Reception (Foundation) or Term 1 Reception. This program runs every Wednesday for a full school day. Julia Vassallo is teaching this program, with assistance from Vicky Manalo. Many of our children starting in Term 3 Preschool have also started to visit on Wednesdays in our Occasional Care program. We love meeting all our new members of our St Margaret Mary’s Community.
It is Catholic Education Week 15th-19th May. To celebrate our wonderful Catholic School Community at St Margaret Mary’s School, we are offering 2 school tours for families who may be considering a Catholic education for their child/ren.
Tuesday 16th May 9.15am and 5.00pm
If you know anyone who may be interested in finding out more about our educational and wellbeing program, they can book via our website or by contacting Angela in the office.
Thank you for your continued support

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2, I hope that as a family you were able to spend some time together over the break. We are looking forward to the term ahead and remind parents and caregivers that you are warmly invited to join us on our newly surfaced court area for Community Prayer every Friday between 8:45am and 9:00am.
2023 Sacramental Program
The Sacramental Program continues next week with a Confirmation Information Meeting on Wednesday 10 May (Week 2) at 7:00pm. Please note, that the meeting will be held at Whitefriars School (45 Beaufort Street, Woodville Park) in the Mary MacKillop Hall.
The parish requests that students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation attend the information meeting with at least one or both parents. Students will receive a Confirmation pack, containing information and a book with activities to help families prepare for the sacrament together. Please be advised that you will be required to sign in on arrival to confirm your attendance.
Moore Street Soup Run
Each year, we support the Moore Street Soup Run, which has been providing a warm meal to those in need for the past 37 Autumn and Winters seasons. This year, the soup run continues the vision of Sr Janet Mead who dedicated her life to responding to the needs of the homeless and poor within the community.
Families who are able, can place onion, pumpkin, or potato donations in the Front office vegetable basket. All donated vegetables will be used to create delicious soups with our students. These soups will be delivered directly to Moore Street and will be served at an upcoming Soup Run, providing a warm meal to our sisters and brothers in need.
Walk Safely to School Day
The 24th National Walk to School Day is on Friday 19 May. The walk encourages all primary school children, parents and caregivers to walk safely to school promoting better health, road safety, public transport and caring for our environment.
Engaging in regular physical activities promotes healthy practices and improves academic performance. Walking regularly is a great exercise for your health and one which can grow to become part of a family’s daily routines.
If you would like your family to be involved, you can walk the entire distance from home to school, catch public transport and walk from the bus stop or if you need to drive, try parking the car down the street and walk a short distance.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Looking forward to yet another wonderful term of Italian learning. All classes will be learning and exploring "self" and how to describe their physical features and appearance in Italian. All classes will be using a story or guided reader text as part of this learning. The learning intention this term across all year levels is to be immersed in Italian language both in written format and oral.
I will also be attending a professional learning day with a focus on Assessment & Reporting in Languages.
