Term 1, Week 7 Friday 17th March 2023
School Board and Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 22nd March 2023
6.30pm St Margaret Mary’s School
Our AGM will be a ‘paper AGM’. The reports will be made available to the community prior to this meeting, and I welcome any questions or queries.
We are calling for nominations for the school board
The school board does not require a huge commitment, it is 2 meetings each school term (6.30-8pm, on a Wednesday evening). The school board is important in shaping policy and future direction of the school. It is a vital part of parent voice and is a great chance to meet other parents, offer ideas and discuss school planning. You do not require any particular experience other than an interest in the strategic direction of our school.
Please give me a call (or catch a staff member in the yard) if you’d like to discuss.
An expression of interest for nomination can be made via email to info@smms.catholic.edu.au
There is also some information about school boards at https://www.schoolboards.cesa.catholic.edu.au/recruitment/for-parents/joining-a-board
Parent Support for Literacy
At St Margaret Mary’s School we recognise the vital role parents play in their child’s literacy development. The Early Years (Reception-Year 2) is a crucial time of development for reading and writing. We use InitiaLit as our teaching program for reading and alongside our program we have intervention. Intervention includes speech and language programs (developed by our Speech Pathologist), MiniLit (an intensive reading intervention program) and EAL/D support (English as an Additional Language/Dialect).
We are inviting all parents/carers of children in R-2 to attend an important information session outlining our literacy program and how we can help you support your child’s reading at home. All R-2 students have bought home a note about this, and this information will also be posted on SeeSaw.
We look forward to seeing all R-2 parents/carers attend a session.
Parent/Teacher Conversations
We also look forward to seeing all parents/carers attend the parent/teacher conversations next week. This is a very important opportunity to discuss your child’s learning and wellbeing with their teacher.
Student Supervision Before and After School
Students are supervised before school from 8.20am and after school until 3.20pm. After this time, they will be taken to OSHC. We ask ALL parents/carers to register for OSHC (it is free to register) in case you ever need this service. Outside our official supervision times, we cannot guarantee staff are available to supervise your children and we will need to pass on staffing charges if they are not registered with OSHC.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Kelly Campbell
Parent and Teacher Learning Conversations
On Monday we begin our Parent and Teacher Learning Conversations. The teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents and to discussing the learning has taken place already.
Please use the links to make your time to meet with your child/ren’s teacher, before the link closes on Friday afternoon.

A Survey regarding Preschool
We are collecting information from all families regarding Preschool. We would appreciate it if all families who have attended our Preschool in the past, or who are currently attending Preschool could fill out he survey. It will take less than two minutes to complete.
Please click on the link to access the survey.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Sacrament of First Reconciliation
This Saturday the 18 March, Nicholas, Coralei, Rosalie, Abrihet, Jayne Louiz and Cameron will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in St Margaret Mary’s Church, from 11:00am.
The following Saturday the 25 March, Kayleen, Aria, Javier and Xavier will also receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in St Margaret Mary’s Church, from 11:00am.
Feast of Saint Joseph
This year the Feast of Saint Joseph will be celebrated on Monday 20 March. Saint Joseph became the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. He is also known as the patron saint of families and workers. As a community, we acknowledged Saint Joseph as the focus of our Community Prayer on Friday 17 March.
Gold Coin Fundraiser
Thank you for your ongoing support of Project Compassion.
On Monday 27 March, students are invited to wear casual clothing with active footwear for a gold coin or Project Compassion Box donation.
In connection with our focus on giving during Lent, students may like to consider wearing a purple accessory, or a purple clothing item, or a clothing item with a bit of purple in it. If your child does not already own any purple items, they are welcome to wear other colours. Please do not purchase any purple accessories or clothing solely for this occasion.
Our parish priest Fr Charles Lukati, is also busy raising awareness for Caritas Australia through his passion for running. Fr Charles will be participating in the Clare Valley Marathon (21km), to help raise funds for communities impacted by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
This year, half of our fundraising efforts will go directly to Project Compassion and the other half will go towards supporting Fr Charles. Both causes, however go towards Caritas Australia.
We thank you for your generous gift of either a gold coin donation or a returned Project Compassion Box containing donations from the family. Together we can make a difference and empower change ‘for all future generations.’
Have a good weekend everyone.
Matthew Harrison
Our Year 5/6 SLT Representatives have joined students from across SA for the NYLD. They were very excited to hear from the guest speakers and were really looking forward to being at the Convention Centre.
They heard from Port Power star Jemma Houghton and meet Nathan Luff author Nerd Herd as well as Bondi Rescue's Anthony Harries Carroll.
Thank you to Mr Harrison for taking our SLTs to the Convention Centre today.
Senior Students are working on researching traditional Carnevale characters.
This is their first assessment piece for this term.
