Term 1, Week 11 Friday 14th April 2023
What a busy few weeks it has been!
The ‘Living In Harmony’ Day on Wednesday was such a wonderful celebration of the diversity of our school community. The children participated enthusiastically in all of the experiences and demonstrated their skills of patience and cooperation all day.
A huge thank you to Mrs Armiento and her organising committee for such a wonderful day!
Occasional Care
We have had a wonderful term in Occasional Care, with the children easily fitting into the Preschool community.
Occasional Care provides three-year-old children with a fantastic opportunity to transition into Preschool and encourages the development of their independence.
Please contact Angela if you would like to enquire about your young children joining Occasional Care.
Thank You and Goodbye
As many of you already know, I am leaving St Margaret Mary’s School this term to begin a new role. I have been here since 2009 and it is now time for me to move on.
St Margaret Mary’s School is such a wonderful community and leaving has been very difficult. The children are always so happy to come to school, where they are supported and encouraged by a wonderful and nurturing team of teachers and support staff. I have been very lucky to see so many of the children grow and develop from Preschool to Year 6, and witness the lovely young people they become! I have been very blessed to belong to this community for so long.
I want to thank all of those who have made an effort to say goodbye and to wish me luck.
I hope to see you again!
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter long weekend with family and friends. The liturgical colour for Easter is white. Easter is a time where Jesus shares new life with us and we celebrate, filled with new hope and joy. The Season of Easter continues for fifty days and concludes Pentecost Sunday on the 28 of May.
Holy Week and Easter
Over the past two weeks, we have gathered each day in Community Prayer to reflect on the events of Holy Week, the Passion and the resurrection. Thank you to the following groups for leading us so beautifully each day in our reflections of Matthew’s Gospel:
- Jesus enters Jerusalem presented by our Reception to Year 3 Student Leadership Team
- Jesus announces his betrayal presented by Year 5/6LO
- Jesus shares a Last Supper with the disciples presented by Year 5/6LC
- The Stations of the Cross presented by Sacramental and Parish students
- The resurrection of Jesus presented by Year 5/6GG
2023 Sacramental Program
The Sacramental Program continues next term with a Confirmation Information Meeting on Wednesday 10 May (Week 2) at 7.00pm at Whitefriars School (45 Beaufort Street, Woodville Park) in the Mary MacKillop Hall.
The parish requests that students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation attend the information meeting with at least one or both parents. Students will receive a Confirmation pack, containing information and a book with activities to help families prepare for the sacrament. Please be advised that you will be required to sign in on arrival to confirm your attendance.
Collaborative Enquiry
Next term, Ms Rivera and I will take part in a collaborative enquiry on Assessment & Moderation in Religious Education. We are looking forward to joining other educators to be part of this system initiative and to share these assessment and moderation experiences with our colleagues throughout the year.
Have a good break everyone.
Matthew Harrison
Thank you very much to Pierce and Finley's Dad Tristan for the awesome bananas we all enjoyed at Sports Day, courtesy of The Fruit Box!
On Thursday 30th March, 14 of our students participated in the SACPSSA Swimming Carnival at Marion SA Aquatic Centre. It was an amazing day for our school with our 2023 team bringing home the winners shield! Our Year 5 & 6 swimmers were Age Group Champions and Steven won Individual Age Champion for Year 6. Our Year 5 swimmers also broke a record in the 4x25m Freestyle Relay! A special mention to Mr Harrison and Prageeth for supporting Ms Brown on the day. An incredible achievement for our swimmers who represented our school with sportsmanship and respect.
We celebrated our Sports Day on March 31st at Bridgestone Athletcis Stadium, and wasn't it an amazing day! The rain had come and gone before the last race and all the students participated wtih enthusiasm, sportsmanship and a great sense of fun! It was delightful to see lots of smiling faces as they jumped, threw and ran their way through the day.
A special mention to the parents who helped on the day by either handing out ribbons or chaperoning classes at events. A BIG Congratulations to the Yellow Team for winning the Athletics cup and the Green Team for winning the Spirit Cup.
Another BIG thank you to our Sports Captains who helped organise the chants and Health Hustle on the day.
Thank you to all the staff that helped on the day and to Mr Graham for all his organising another wonderful sports day and for all his hard work in the lead up.
